RAD to Introduce Phase 2 of its EtherAccess Strategy

802.1ag Standard Ethernet OAM, and EPL/EVPL and E-Line/E-LAN Support Added Across EtherAccess Product Portfolio

September 17, 2007: At the Carrier Ethernet World Congress, to be held September 24-28 in Geneva, RAD Data Communications will unveil Phase 2 of its EtherAccess strategy. Phase 2 supports the rollout of Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) and Ethernet Private Line (EPL), as well as E-Line and E-LAN services, over fiber, DSL and bonded copper circuits, with essential 802.1ag standard Ethernet OAM (Operations, Administration and Management).

Three new products have been added to the EtherAccess portfolio with 802.1ag Ethernet OAM standard capabilities and support for EVPL/EPL:

ETX-202A – provides these capabilities over fiber access, having up to four Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet user ports and up to two Gigabit Ethernet network ports

LA-210 – provides these capabilities over two, four and eight wire EFM-based DSL, with up to four Fast Ethernet user ports and a TDM E1/T1 pseudowire option for legacy services over packet networks

RICi-16 – provides these capabilities over up to 16 bonded E1/T1 circuits, with up to four Fast Ethernet user ports

Market Requirements – Same Service Attributes Regardless of Access Technology

"Carrier Ethernet, which was once restricted to core networks, is reaching the access," explains Yacov Cazes, Director of Ethernet Product Development at RAD Data Communications. "Today's market requirements include Carrier Ethernet capabilities in access networks, providing the same Ethernet service attributes to customers regardless of the access technologies used, which certainly was not the case even a year ago," he continues. "RAD Data Communications is uniquely positioned among the front line of vendors in responding to these new demands and in implementing them across the board in its entire Ethernet access portfolio, which is precisely what we have done in EtherAccess Phase 2."

Ethernet OAM – an Essential Tool for End-to-End SLA and Service Control

"Ethernet OAM capability based on IEEE's 802.1ag standard is recognized as a 'must have' requirement today for the transformation of Ethernet into a carrier-class technology," Cazes notes. "It allows service providers to proactively monitor and control their service end-to-end," he adds. "RAD has gone one step further by introducing standard Ethernet OAM in the access, enabling end-to-end service control in a multi-vendor, multi-access technology environment."
"The launch of EtherAccess Phase 2, which will take place in stages over the next several months with the introduction of new and enhanced products, is another sign of RAD's determination to be the leading vendor in this evolving market," Cazes says. "Taking into account the rest of our Ethernet access product range, including SDH/SONET and wireless technologies, I can safely say that no other Ethernet access vendor has the portfolio depth and versatility as RAD does."

Certification and Availability

RAD’s Phase 2 EtherAccess products have been certified compliant to the Metro Ethernet Forum's (MEF) service attributes under its Carrier Ethernet certification program. The Iometrix testing lab determined that each product delivered Ethernet services to the MEF 9 and MEF 14 test specifications.
