Dedicated ATM Integrated Access Device

LA-110: Integrated Access Device

Product Summary

RAD’s LA-110 integrated access device delivers multiple services such as voice, Ethernet and Internet access over low-cost xDSL and ATM transport. Leveraging well-established deployments of wholesale SHDSL and ADSL services, it offers cost and coverage benefits for SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and in cellular backhaul. By extending end-to-end management up to the customer premises, the LA-110 enables service differentiation and QoS guarantees. Furthermore, the LA-110 integrated access device allows bandwidth capacity increase up to 9.2 Mbps, with IMA bonding over four SHDSL pairs.

Benefits

• Reduces CapEx by leveraging widespread deployments of low cost DSLAM infrastructure

• Lowers OpEx by supporting intrinsic ATM QoS and OAM

• Provides leased-line type services at a fraction of the cost of leased E1/ T1 lines

• Supports 2G/3G colocation in cellular backhaul

• Simplifies installation with plug and play design

Further Product Information

RAD’s LA-110 integrated access device enables carriers to deliver voice, LAN and data traffic to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), over low-cost xDSL access lines and existing ATM networks. Typically used in corporate applications and cellular backhaul, the LA-110 features a variety of network interface alternatives including ADSL, SHDSL, IMA over SHDSL, E1 and Ethernet. User interfaces include 10/100BaseT and optional E1 (TDM or UNI), ISDN, VoDSL or serial FR/X.21/V.35.

Leased lines over ATM (LLoATM)

Enterprises requiring large capacity at headquarters can benefit from a network that combines a lower speed DSL service at branch offices and higher speed ATM at the main office. Supporting AAL1 constant bit rate (CBR) traffic, the LA-110 guarantees reserved bandwidth and minimum delay for mission-critical and real-time applications. This enables delivery of TDM services at a fraction of the cost of leased lines, while maintaining the same quality of service (QoS).

In addition to allowing transparent delivery of serial data streams and circuit-emulated services (CES) over ATM (AAL1), LA-110’s UNI network interface incorporates additional ATM adaptation layers. These include AAL2, supporting ATM loop emulation services (LES) for PSTN and ISDN BRI/PRI access, as well as AAL5, for Frame Relay, Ethernet and IP packet traffic.

IMA Bonding

To increase the bandwidth capacity of available SHDSL lines, the LA-110 features an optional IMA (inverse multiplexing over ATM) bonding over 4 × 2-wire SHDSL lines. This allows carriers and service operators to cost effectively fill the bandwidth gap between lower speed xDSL and higher speed fiber, providing up to 9.2 Mbps for distances of up to 8 kilometers (5 miles).

ATM QoS and OAM

Supporting ATM QoS, the LA-110 enables carriers to deliver all voice and data services with performance guarantees. Traffic shaping per VC secures the priority of critical applications, with service classification per CBR, VBR, UBR and UBR+ bandwidth profiles. Additionally, operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) functionalities provide complete end-to-end control of the service, including such attributes as fault notification, connectivity monitoring, physical and VCC loopbacks and delay measurements. The LA-110’s comprehensive diagnostics and statistics collection allow service provides to reduce their operational and maintenance costs, by minimizing technician truck rolls for on-site inspections to localize and repair network faults.

IP functionality

The LA-110 incorporates a full-featured, built-in bridge or IP router with integrated firewall. Such functionality eliminates the need for an expensive external router and provides an excellent solution for LAN-to-LAN or Internet access services. NAT functionality allows multiple users to share a single public IP address, while Layer 2 VLAN tagging is also supported.

Network management

The LA-110 integrated access device can be managed using different ports and applications, including local and remote out-of-band management via an ASCII terminal connected to the RS-232 port, or the LAN port, respectively. In addition, Remote in-band management via the ATM uplink is performed using Telnet, Web browser or RADview-Lite, RAD’s SNMP-based management access system. Different stations can manage LA-110 simultaneously, enabling network status monitoring from different locations.
