Ethernet over Legacy Networks

Ethernet Access over Legacy Transport Networks
(Ethernet over E1/T1, E3/T3, SDH/SONET, DSL)

Most enterprises are not served by a fiber loop connection from their service provider’s network. Fortunately, service providers are still able to provide them with Carrier-class Ethernet services. RAD’s EtherAccess technology supports Carrier-class Ethernet access services with uniform Quality of Service attributes over E1/T1, E3/T3, SDH, SONET and DSL networks – as well as over fiber loops connected to Metro Ethernet or MPLS.

Service providers with legacy SDH/SONET-based infrastructure can leverage their investment to deliver Ethernet services without having to invest in a new packet network overlay. Providers with newer high-speed packet networks frequently need to rely upon third-party service providers to reach out-of-footprint customers. These are usually leased E1/T1, E3/T3, SDH/SONET or DSL facilities. In both cases, RAD’s EtherAccess family provides an efficient and economical solution.

RAD’s EtherAccess product suite includes rate and media converters, network termination units, channelized Ethernet gateways, NGN add-drop multiplexers with GFP and VCAT, and integrated access devices. These Ethernet access solutions span data rates from T1, E1 and n x T1, E1 (employing bonding technology) to E3, T3, STM-1, OC-3 and STM-4, OC-12. Consistent levels of service are delivered throughout the network regardless of the underlying infrastructure by the use of VLANs and applying consistent traffic management tools, including a single mechanism for operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) with a common management system.
