Miniature Ethernet to E1/T1 Remote Bridge

MiRICi-E1/T1: Miniature Ethernet to E1/T1 Remote Bridge

Product Summary

RAD’s MiRICi-E1/T1 connects Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet LANs over framed E1 or T1 circuits. The miniature Ethernet to E1/T1 remote bridge provides TDM connectivity to any Ethernet device with an SFP (small form factor pluggable)-compatible, Fast Ethernet or GbE port. Hot-swappable and software-configurable, the intelligent SFP remote bridge is a fully managed device supporting standard GFP encapsulation. It delivers a complete Ethernet over PDH solution in a finger-sized SFP enclosure and enables a quick rollout of new Ethernet services over legacy TDM infrastructure. The MiRICi-E1/T1 is part of RAD’s “System on an SFP” product line.

Benefits

• Reduces CapEx by providing a cost-effective alternative to standalone units or conversion cards

• Allows easy integration with autonomous operation

• Increases network flexibility by allowing quick, ad-hoc installations

• Supports a scalable migration to fiber Ethernet access

• Eliminates the need for equipment certification and integration, and for special operator training

• Interoperable with third-party routers and switches

Further Product Information

Gigabit Ethernet over TDM-based WANs

The MiRICi-E1/T1 is an intelligent SFP remote bridge, forwarding Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet traffic to TDM-based WANs at full duplex wire-speed. It enables quick and easy rollout of new Ethernet services over legacy TDM infrastructure, without the need for costly dedicated devices. The miniature Ethernet to E1/T1 remote bridge simplifies management, while saving space, power consumption and cabling.

Allowing service providers to adapt network interfaces as needed, the MiRICi-E1/T1 is ideal for delivering transparent LAN services and providing remote branch connectivity over leased lines and TDM-based WANs, for service providers, private enterprise and campus networks. In addition, it enables remote Ethernet connectivity over E1/T1 radio links.

Standard Encapsulation

The miniature Ethernet to E1/T1 remote bridge supports standard GFP encapsulation to allow book-end connections as well as third-party GFP interoperability.

Advanced Management Capabilities

The MiRICi-E1/T1 can be monitored, configured, and tested using the following ports and applications:

• Out-of-band management via an I2C interface

• Inband management via the Ethernet port using a Web browser

The MiRICi-E1/T1 employs remote loopback (RLB) and local loopback (LLB) diagnostics for detecting and troubleshooting physical layer link failures. In addition, it enables WAN to LAN fault propagation alarms, and can receive T1 “Loop Up” and “Loop Down” commands using standard FDL bit codes.

Flow Control

To avoid overwhelming the WAN port, a flow control mechanism is activated if Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet traffic exceeds the WAN link capacity, sending Pause packets towards the LAN side.

SFP Enclosure

The MiRICi-E1/T1 can be installed on any device that complies with the multi-source agreement (MSA) specifications. Running on power derived from the host device, it requires no additional power supply.

The MiRICi-E1/T1 operates opposite remote MiRICi units or any Ethernet device that supports standard GFP encapsulation, such as RAD’s RICi-E1/T1 Fast Ethernet over E1/T1 NTUs and Egate-100 Gigabit Ethernet over TDM Aggregation Gateway.
