RAD Pseudowire Technology Integrated into Narad Broadband Access Network Solution for HFC

Narad's Single-Box BIU Provides Cable MSOs with T1/E1 and Broadband Ethernet over HFC Infrastructure

June 21, 2006: Narad Networks, a leading provider of commercial-grade last-mile broadband Ethernet access for HFC systems has partnered with RAD Data Communications to incorporate RAD's industry-leading pseudowire circuit emulation technology into the NARAD Broadband Interface Unit (BIU) to provide cable MSOs with a single-box solution delivering T1/E1 plus Ethernet over HFC.
RAD has played a leading role in authoring pseudowire standards, including TDMoIP, and has been shipping TDMoIP-based IPmux and Gmux solutions for over five years with more than 40,000 ports installed worldwide.
"We are delighted to be working with Narad to deliver T1/E1 services across HFC infrastructures," stated Eitan Schwartz, VP and General Manager of Pseudowire Solutions for RAD. "There is a huge untapped market opportunity for cable MSOs to deliver T1, E1 and broadband Ethernet services to commercial customers and wireless cellular backhaul operators within their footprints," he noted.
Narad has physically integrated RAD's pseudowire, ASIC-based CES technology into their BIUs to deliver a family of broadband Ethernet CPE devices that include single T1/E1, quad T1/E1 and high precision clock recovery options (better than 16ppb). Furthermore, Narad's Service Delivery Platform (NSDP) has been enhanced to support the combined solution providing enhanced configuration, management and service assurance.
Narad will market these integrated devices under its own name.
"RAD's standards-compliant pseudowire CES technology meets the needs of the challenging HFC environment," said Michael Collette, CEO of Narad Networks. "RAD's extensive experience with circuit emulation combined with their superior ASIC-based technology that provides high performance, low intrinsic packetization delay and low power consumption gave us the confidence to incorporate their technology into key portions of our delivery platform," he added.
The joint RAD/Narad solution enables MSOs to deliver multiple commercial-grade T1/E1 circuits along with broadband Ethernet services displacing expensive T1/E1 lines leased from ILECs or CLECs. For example, enterprises can use the T1 lines for branch office PBX trunking while mobile operators can use the RAD/Narad solution to replace leased T1/E1 lines used for cellular backhaul.

About Narad Networks

Narad Networks is a provider of switched broadband access solutions that enable cable operators to leverage existing coaxial cable and flexibly use fiber and wireless media to deliver high capacity, high performance IP services, including voice, data, video, and enterprise networks. The company's QoS switches and service management software, along with its broad spectrum fiber and coax transmission technologies, support multi-gigabit transport for both commercial and residential customers. Narad's patented Ethernet-over-Coax solution meets the needs of coax-based users that have voice or data needs beyond that which cable modems can offer, while Narad's switched Ethernet-over-Fiber solution provides unprecedented IP capacity to fiber-based customers. Narad is currently deployed with North American and European cable operators.
